The Gen-Z Consortium recently released two final specifications – an update to the Scalable Connector Specification 1.0A and a new PCIe® mechanical form factor. These new specifications allow companies to meet new and future demands while reducing solution cost and complexity.
The Consortium now has seven final and two draft specifications available for public download on its website. Read on for more information on the new Gen-Z specifications.
Gen-Z Scalable Connector Specification v 1.1
The Gen-Z Scalable Connector Specification v 1.1 is an update to the Scalable Connector Specification 1.0A. It defines the electrical, mechanical, reliability, and manufacturing requirements of the Gen-Z Scalable Connector. The Gen-Z Scalable Connector provides high-density, modularity, and interoperability across a wide spectrum of high-speed signaling rates.
PCIe® Enclosure Compatible Form Factor Specification (PECFF) v 1.0
The PCIe Enclosure Compatible Form Factor Specification (PECFF) v 1.0 defines a PCIe Enclosure Compatible Form Factor that is mechanically compatible with enclosures that support a PCI Express® Card Electromechanical (CEM) add-in card (AIC). PECFF complies with the SFF-TA-1002 mating interface, supports high-power solutions, supports up to 64 different pairs, and specifies AIC-to-AIC high-speed data connectivity.
Gen-Z is a new data-access technology designed to provide high-speed, low-latency, memory-semantic access to data and devices via direct-attached, switched or fabric topologies. It will allow business and technology leaders to overcome current challenges with the existing computer architecture and provide future opportunities for innovative solutions that will be open, efficient, simple and cost-effective.
Gen-Z technology supports a wide range of new storage class memory media and acceleration devices, features new hybrid and memory-centric computing technologies, and uses a highly efficient, performance-optimized solution stack. Its memory media independence and high bandwidth, coupled with low latency, enables advanced workloads and technologies for end-to-end secure connectivity from node level to rack scale.
