The Gen-Z Consortium was founded October 11, 2016 by a broad group of industry-leading organizations. It was designed to create and commercialize a new, scalable computing interconnect and protocol. The Consortium quickly amassed widespread industry participation, highlighting the importance of open standards and their role in providing a level playing field to encourage technology adoption, innovation, and much-needed options.
Over the past five years, the Gen-Z Consortium has evolved in terms of industry leadership, technology development, and its mission. AMD’s Kurtis Bowman served as President of the Consortium from its launch in 2016 through mid-2021 and contributed to the elevation of Gen-Z as it continued to gain traction in the industry. This year, Kurtis passed the torch to Intelliprop Founder and CEO, Hiren Patel, to guide the Consortium’s ongoing efforts. In addition to these leadership transitions, Microchip Technology’s Tim Symons became Vice President, Kurtis Bowman now serves as the treasurer, and HPE’s Barry McAuliffe is the Consortium’s secretary.
Gen-Z has achieved so much during this time, despite events that went up in flames, new technology challenges, and even a global pandemic. The Consortium continues to produce a variety of industry materials, such as webinars, virtual coffee chats, blogs, and vlogs, all focused on educating the community about Gen-Z’s technology and our members’ work behind the scenes. We’ve also had the pleasure of sponsoring, speaking, and demonstrating Gen-Z technology at numerous events—both in-person and virtually—around the world.
We are dedicated to ensuring open accessibility in the marketplace, which is why Gen-Z’s open specifications can be integrated into any solution, free of charge and with no constraints on re-use. Our committed members continue to demonstrate the variety of ways our open-systems, fabric-based architecture interconnects processors, memory devices, and accelerators while advancing the industry. These demonstrations highlight how Gen-Z fabrics expertly enable resource provisioning and sharing to support a diverse range of applications and provide flexibility for system reconfiguration that saves money and time..
The Gen-Z Consortium has steadily grown its membership, increased industry participation, and continues to enhance server solutions and enable new architectures. We are excited to see what the future holds for Gen-Z and look forward to celebrating new milestones in the coming years. Consider joining the Consortium on this journey? Cheers to 5 years!
